Numbers with a blue background and a "*" are system assigned values. The DNA sample produced no result for DYS 439.
Since the earliest of recorded times, genealogists have tended to display their family history in the shape of the branches of a tree. So entrenched is this association, that the definition of the two words combined... family tree... can be found in most English dictionaries. We use the colored (tan/khaki) lines to show participants which fit into a group. Others listed here (solid white lines) do not currently have matches.
Harold Johnson, the former webmaster decided to use the names of different species of trees to identify the family groups for the project. This allows great flexibility in renaming groups when the need arises to merge or split each group as our project grows.

*System assigned value. The DNA sample produced no result for DYS 439. **A value of “0” for any marker indicates that the lab reported a null value or no result for this marker. All cases of this nature are retested multiple times by the lab to confirm their accuracy. Mutations causing null values are infrequent, but are passed on to offspring just like other mutations, so related male lineages such as a father and son would likely share any null values.
